I have been experimenting with the D programming language over the past couple of weeks. I look forward to using the D programming language in the future. In a distributed system communicating through sockets with a common binary protocol, all languages are possible. Although there are numerous resources out there about the D programming language, they don't seem that easy to find. D is a native language and was conceived by Walter Bright. The question then should be rephrased, what is the best languge for: a: FIX/etc connections b: Feed handlers c: OrderManagerClient d: OrderManagerServer e: Business Logic f: Trading Logic Extreme low latency trading systems probably require C or assembler, or perhaps no traditional programming language at all and something like Verilog! In many ways it's like Racket or Scheme. I don't have an actual need to learn D but I know Andrei is an engaging writer and I wanted to know more about D. Lamenting the “teetering tower of Binary Babel” of the “jerry-rigged” programming languages most of which, he claims, are “still thinly veiled versions of Fortran“. Although I understand that there are now many GUI Libraries to choose from I chose GtkD to start with because it seemed easy to install and try out. I recently purchased Andrei Alexandrescu's The D Programming Language. It is a higher level language than C++, but retains the ability to write high performance code and interface directly with the operating system API's and with hardware. Unfortunately, I don't know that I'm going to spend a lot of time on it right now. The Python books are a voluminous book on the Python programming language subject. €D is a general purpose systems and applications programming language. Just how easy it is can be seen in my first steps with D tutorial.
